Sounds like a deal with the devil? Reminds me a bit of a current book that I LOVE "The Unseen Life of Addie La Rue"

You created a "bad boy" character that I love to hate, but then, if he was bad to help his son..wow, that makes it slightly harder to hate him.

I don't know. I like to think I'd never make a deal with the devil, but my kids ARE my weakness. If I had to do it to make them safe...I still hope I wouldn't.
