Only my family laughs at medical emergencies

I just got an email from my mother. Her postscript included "BTW, your Uncle Bill ground the end of his thumb off on Tues. He's getting rid of his fingers slooooooowly. (sic)"

Several years ago, he lost the tip of his pointer finger when a jack let go and detipitated it. I think he's planning a big heist (which doesn't require much manual dexterity) and is trying to get rid of his fingerprints.

That sounds exactly like the kind of conversation my mum's side of the family would be having.

Phew! That's a huge weight off my mind, knowing we're not the only odd ones in the world.

its a farm thing...

Remember me and the story of the grandma with the nearly severed toe and the sewing shears?

I have an uncle with a missing left hand ring finger. It got pulled off early in his trucking career. He has the perfect excuse not to wear his wedding ring...
What happened to your uncle sounds both horrifying, but in light of the background, also quite funny. So no, you're not the only one. ;)

I can see where you get the often inappropriate craziness.

Actually no - I don't think you told me that one! Sounds like it's worth hearing though.

Inappropriate craziness - that is such a great description of me. I'll have to remember that one.

(And the Garniss family is proof positive that sarcasm is a genetic trait.)

oh, my dad almost lost his left ring finger. He was wearing his wedding band at the barn, and it got caught on a nail as he was hauling ass to the other end of the barn. He was running fast enough that the ring cut into the skin right down to the bone.

That was a couple of weeks after he lost his first wedding band when a calf sucked it off while he was bottle feeding him.

All that happened within the first 6 months of the marriage. Needless to say, I've never seen dad wear a wedding ring. D's lucky - I have no intention of making him wear his (if we ever get married).

See, so many people nowadays are skipping the whole being married thing in the first place, so you have to hunt for other clues as to whether they're 'taken' or not.
So yeah, no need for those dangerous, dangerous objects. :p
