Looking Forward...

I am idiotically excited about my next few weekends. I'm sure it's due in great part to really not wanting to be at work any more, but also I am just really happy to have plans to do things I like with people I like.

Next Saturday, I'm going to the home of some friends to have what we are calling "The LotRathon". Fellowship of the Ring starts at 10 am, followed by The Two Tower and The Return of the King. Extended edition of all three. I'm going to park my ass on their sofa for 12 hours and just lose all sense of self. Cool, eh? The best part is that they have a projector and a big white wall - just like the theatre. I'll take my Tolkien quiz book, even though the questions are almost impossible. I'd take my X-stitch, but it'll be dark. We did this last year with all three Matrix movies, and it was a blast. God, I'm a geek.

The Saturday after that we are heading back to D.'s hometown for Paddyfest. His brother's friends and wife want to experience a small town event. We'll be in town for the Saturday night closing dance. I've never been to a Paddyfest dance before, but it's an arena dance - I know how those go. It'll be fun, like Country Mouse and City Mouse. When I write it out, it sounds like the city snobs want to go slummin', but it's not like that at all. They've heard all of H.'s stories about growing up in small town Ontario, (and can he tell a story!) and they want to check it out for themselves.

There's nothing really amazing or different about my plans, but I get to see some people I enjoy spending time with and do some stuff I enjoy doing. That's always worth it.

Geek-Out! That party sounds really fun to me. And isn't that the point of social gatherings? To spend time with people you like, doing things you like? So what if 'society' tells you its 'not sociable' to do geeky things - if you're with friends, then its social, and its good for you.
End rant. ;)
