All my life is cat and toddler

Mostly cat, since the toddler has much better sleep patterns.

I'd forgotten the misery that is kittenhood. Midi is a year old, but still very much a kitten; bumbling, awkward, annoying and IN YOUR FACE ALL THE TIME.

I had to dry everything on the counter because Midi jumped up there and knocked over my mother's day bouquet.
I have to be extremely careful when doing laundry because dark holes are apparently the most fascinating places ever.
I also have to search every room before I close a door because she keeps getting trapped in closets, spare rooms etc.
We can no longer leave mats on the floor because everything is a place to sharpen her claws.
I haven't slept through a whole night in weeks because either she wants to play, engage in another session of 'who is going to be top cat' or groom my head.

As for the ongoing game of who is going to be top cat, there is no doubt in my mind that despite her youth and recency of her addition to the household, Midi is going to dominate Lyra. I can see how this is going, though Lyra is deep in denial. I'd really like them to get this settled sooner rather than later so that I can sleep without the cat fights.

Poor Lyra.

At least Midi is cute.

What a handful though cute really does help.

Eventually she'll grow out of it. Eventually she'll grow out of it.

Until then - we train with corporal cuddles (enforced snuggles whenever she does anything bad).

I think the cuteness is all that saves kittens at times.

And toddlers. :)

I have three kittehs, all adopted as adults; all pretty capable of annoying the hell outta me but, and this is the crucial thing, all three give me the love I need to keep me going.

No toddlers, but my back is giving me all the mobility of one at times; not that those three accept that as an excuse when I'm slow at delivering lunch of course :-)

Midi is our first adult adoptee, but 1 year old is clearly pretty far from adult.

Then again, so am I, and I'm 40.

Kittens are love but a ton of work!

[identity profile] garnigal.livejournal.com 2016-05-17 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
She murdered some plants I'd started from seed too.

Good thing she's cuddly.

There's a very kitteny black and white cat that visits - we call him/her "Mittens". Mittens loves running after feet and yowls while doing it, which keeps making me think I've trodden on its paw! It got shut in the garage the other day for half an hour and knocked tools off the surfaces!

[identity profile] garnigal.livejournal.com 2016-05-16 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I forgot to include her jumping up on our seed starting table and knocking all my baby peppers off and murdering them! Knocked the grow light down too, cooking my lettuces.

Rotten cat.

I hope Midi is not a Maine Coon. In my case, my Maine Coon still does all of those things even though he is now 5 years old. *sigh*

Nope, just your standard domestic short hair. We had a Turkish Van, which is the middle eastern equivalent of Maine Coon in size and temperament. He was a love, but so very destructive.

Cuteness in cats- a survival tecnique. :)

[identity profile] garnigal.livejournal.com 2016-05-17 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
And the speed. This morning she went insane and attacked the bath mat, somehow ending up freaking out underneath the thing. And then she was just a streak of darkness...

[identity profile] scripsi.livejournal.com 2016-05-18 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
The bath mat was clearly Evil! :D

Good luck with the kitten training!

[identity profile] garnigal.livejournal.com 2016-05-17 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Our kitten training is called 'corporal cuddles' - she misbehaves, and we snuggle her for punishment. :)

It's win-win.

She's cute, and she'll grow out of it. Until then, she's cute and fluffy and snuggly and cute ;)
