So I bought a big white dress...

I've mentioned this off-line to a few LJ friends, but haven't really announced it as such... D and I are tying the knot this November.

In June, D asked what I thought about getting married 11/11/11 (because it's a cool date), and I said, 'that'd be okay'. Thus, engaged and date set.

It'll be a small wedding in comparison to the huge up-home events we're used to, but we want something different, something that isn't exactly the same as my brother's wedding, my cousins' weddings, etc. So we're going to a little inn up near Collingwood. (www.thefallsinn.com), and getting married beside the pond unless it's raining/snowing.

I'm definitely looking forward to it, and my dress is purty. :)

I had my first fitting yesterday - I bought off the rack and was broken-hearted that the dress I loved wouldn't zip. They just shrugged and said "why don't we put in a lace up back instead". I'll post pictures after the lace up is done. Mom is going to hem it and figure out how to bustle it, but she wasn't up for adding the corset back. :)

I like the inn thing (it was Derek's suggestion) - they do most of the work for you, you've got a place to stay, to have the ceremony and to get the pictures done. No messing about with caterers, etc. And there's a waterfall on site. :)

It is gorgeous up there and the pictures are going to be wonderful (we met the photographer tonight).

My dress is awesome! I can't link to it since it's a last year's model - I have no idea how to find it online. It's a-line, heavy ivory satin. Lots of beading and embroidery on the bodice, including on the spagettin straps. We had the bridal shop switch the zipper for a corset back since it's just a teeny bit too small around the breasts. The beading on the bodice comes down to a point and the embroidery on the hem comes up to a point, so it's very slimming and makes me look taller. To save the embroidery on the hem, I'll be wearing 4 inch heels. Mom is doing the hemming and the bustling (it has about a 2 foot train, all embroidered), and I'm going to get her to put in pickups at the front so I can change shoes before the dancing. :)

I've got three attendents, as does Derek. The girls will be wearing a chiffon dress from Jasmine bridal, the B2 line, #b1050 in black. Their website doesn't go right to the page, so you'll have to put the style number in the search box. http://www.jasminebridal.com/ugC_Product_Detail.asp

We ordered my engagement ring and wedding bands this weekend - I'm looking forward to getting that. I'll post pictures!

Your dress sounds incredible! The color sounds right for your coloring, too. I was maid of honor for a redhead who wore a deep ivory, and was gorgeous in it.

The bridesmaids' dresses are that rarity: a dress they can really wear after the wedding. Most brides are lying in their teeth when they promise that. (I used to coordinate weddings--can you tell?) LOL

I had no idea you used to coordinate weddings - what a fun job, with absolute terror and ire tossed in for good measure. :)

One bridesmaid has already said she'll wear it again - but she goes to a lot of fancy events, since she works in major gifts for WWF Canada. The other two might be able to shorten it and use it for other weddings - I hope so anyway.

I'm at the point where I know what I have left to do - I just haven't quite gotten there yet. We still have to do the tasting (both dinner and cake), cake design, get the license, get tuxes for the guys, etc etc etc.

I may take you up on that. I think I've got the invitations worded and set up, I just need to order them and then send them out again. We're using Vistaprint for the invites, so it's pretty easy.
