In Memorium

My great-aunt Edith passed away today. She was in her 90's - 95ish? She was a career woman in an era when there weren't very many women in careers. She was the last of my grandfather's siblings, the last keeper of the family knowledge (now passed down to me), and a generous and wonderful aunt that all her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews all adored.

She sounds like a very cool lady who will be missed. ::hugs::

While she was definitely ready to go, she will be missed. Thanks Cindy.

She sounds so wonderful! How blessed you were to have her.

::hugs::

She was a really nice lady, with enough sarcasm and wit to be interesting. :)

Alas. *hugs* I know my grandparents won't be here much longer, and I just lost a great-uncle. It's such a sad thing when they go.

I keep wondering what stories I missed out on hearing, now that they are all gone. But she was in a lot of pain and it's for the best. Thanks.

I'm so sorry that you lost your great aunt. It sounds like she had a wonderful, long life. I'm sure you will all miss her.

{{{hugs you}}}

She'll definitely be missed. Poor woman - the different families used to fight over who got her for major holidays. :)

*hugs* Yay for you getting to spend time with her to get the family lore!

I know there are a ton of stories that I didn't get and are just gone, but the stories I did get - Aunt Ede didn't censor herself, that's for sure!

She sounds like she would have been a fascinating woman to know. My condolences to you and yours.

She was a good aunt in all the typical ways, but she also had a streak of sarcasm (in my family? No!) that grew up with the kids. My cousin's kid will only remember her as a nice old lady who always had a cookie and lemonade for him, but the rest of us will remember what an excellent gossip she was. :)

She sounds like an amazing woman! How great that you get to keep telling her stories.

She was pretty great. I've got a box full of my grandfather's letters home to his mom and to her - he told his sister a lot more than he told his mother. ;)

I've got a whole new impression of Grandpa.

*hugs* I'm very sorry for your loss.

Thanks. She had a good long life and lots of people who loved her.

*hugs* She sounds like a wonderful woman, who has left quite a legacy.

She certainly did. Right up to last year, we all fought over who got Aunt Ede for major holidays. :)

I'm sorry to hear that. *hug*

Thank you.

I'm very sorry for your loss, but glad you knew her so well.

Today, my father asked me "Ede was the youngest, right?" I had to tell him know. So knowing her well is clearly exactly right.

Thank you.
