I don't want to even think about what #3 could be.

My grandmother got diagnosed with stomach cancer this morning. She's the sixth of the 11 kids to be diagnosed with some form of cancer (2 brain tumours, 1 breast cancer that was beaten, 1 liver/pancreatic, and 1 whose cancer was so far advanced that they couldn't figure out where it started.)

My aunt with stage III breast cancer is her youngest daughter.

We are not having a good summer.

Thanks Sea. We're all pretty much in shock.

Thank you Harmony. I'm at the point now when I think I'll go to my own doctor, just for my own peace of mind. I'm working on a family genealogy, in part to get a handle on the medical background.

Oh Ann, I'm so sorry. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you and your family.

Thanks. It seems to be one thing on top of the next - all a little overwhelming. I think I'm heading back up to the farm this weekend and I'll go up to see Gran with my parents.

Thanks. It's such a crazy time, you'd think it was something out of a novel!

No, see, novels have to make actual sense. Real life has no such strictures. Sadly.

How horrible for your grandmother and your aunt. Both ill and needing support. And how devastating for you and your family.

My mother has a form of stomach cancer so I know what you are going through.

*hugs and prayers*

*hugs* I'm so sorry to hear about this. Seems like a lot of older people are having problems these days.

Mom almost cancelled her trip to Italy when her sister was diagnosed, and she's definitely cancelling now. We're calling that number 3, and keeping our fingers crossed that the universe listens.

Thanks so much for the good thoughts and prayers.

Thanks Ares. It's a good thing we have a large family, and all in geographic proximity. And that Mom has an understanding boss. She got the call and left a note with four words - "I have to go."

That pretty much covered it.

Thanks. Gran and my aunt aren't terribly old (77 and 44 respectively) and I'm choosing to look at that as at least a partly good thing - at least they are healthy enough to withstand the treatment.

It definitely seems like there is a genetic predisposition in that family though. I'm just hoping I take after Dad's side. :)

You know that I am actually very sympathetic, which is why I have to say this:

1) WHEEL... OF... CANCER!!!!!! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KezvwARhBIc)

2) http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/02/boyfriend-doesnt-have-ebola-probably.html

The 2nd set of images, which I have conveniently put into a word document that I will send you.

Oh dear. I'm so sorry. I think one and two are big enough that maybe 3 just won't happen. Much love!

Thanks. We're trying to stay optimistic, with a generous heaping of black humour on the side. So far it seems to be working.
