I got my letter from [livejournal.com profile] lunabee34's letter writing meme. Thanks [livejournal.com profile] ysse_writes! It was fun and there may be more letters to come in the future!

Here is the original meme http://teragramm.livejournal.com/240375.html

As for me...

I'm almost 40. As in I can count it in mere days (March 13). I had a shit tonne of stuff I wanted to do before I turned 40, but I'm hoping there's life after 40, because I'm a bit of a procrastinator.

I've got a toddler named Genevieve but who is mostly called VV that turns 3 on April 1st (that joke was on me). I've got a husband, we've been married for almost 5 years, but we've been together since high school. Makes it really easy to remember the horrors of being a teenager, because if I forget, he's bound to remind me.

We had 4 cats. Now we have 1 cat. And I'm advocating to have it stay at 1 cat until the kid can clean litter boxes.

I'm Canadian. So yes, we have the hot prime minister. I met him during the election rounds last year, and he cuddled VV. Be very jealous.

I write (occasionally), but I'm trying write more. I'm a joss-verse fan all the way, and I'll warn you right up front - I'm love Mal/River. But mostly I write in Buffy because I mostly write for open_on_sunday. I'm garnigal EVERYWHERE - Archive of Our Own, fanfiction.net and of course here.

This may seem pretty surface for an introduction but I'm really an open book - ask me anything!
garnigal: (Default)
Spike - I came for the cute and stayed for the character development. I've watched James in other things, and he loves the camera and the camera loves him, but I've never seen him give a role so much depth as Spike.

Mal - Oh Captain my Captain. Mal is damaged in all the right ways for me. He's driven by so many different, sometimes conflicting, needs and desires. Greed, grief, honour, pride, idealism... it makes him a complex character to write and makes him malleable in many situations. And he's not bad to fantasize about either. :)

Writing - I consider myself a writer. I don't feel right if I haven't got a plot in my mind or on paper. That said, I haven't been writing lately, and I really need to get back to it. I've wanted to be a writer since I figured out that someone wrote the stories I love, but I need to work on my butt in chair-ness.

Fandom - Fandom is all about people for me. Yes, I try to know canon, I try to be the person who can answer what episode did x happen in, who said y, but when it comes down to fandom, it's about finding people to talk about shows with, to share what it means to us on a deeper level and to hopefully get some new great shows to watch out of the conversation.

Friendships - Friendships are really important to me, but I'm not very good at making or keeping friends. I get caught up in stuff, and feel guilty about not contacting people regularly, until it feels too hard to call them at all. I do have a few close friends, and this wedding stuff showed both Derek and I just how many people there are out there who care about us. Hopefully, it will remind me to keep in touch with them more regularly.

So, I'm doing this meme, via [livejournal.com profile] enigmaticblues and [livejournal.com profile] slaymesoftly:

Comment to this post, and I will list five things I associate with you. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your LJ (or just add a reply back to me). Other people (including me) can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

List from enigmaticblues

Wedding - Not a surpise that this is on my list, given the wedding was just last week. I've been with Derek for 17 years. We've got a house (well, a mortgage) and 4 cats. We've been through deaths, illnesses other people's weddings and each other changing, and we were still totally committed. We're finally at a place where we both feel ready for kids and Derek really wanted to be married before that happened (I'd kind of given up on the whole wedding thing.

When he suggested it, my first thought was a city hall wedding and a fancy dinner with our close family and friends. Derek isn't big on being the center of attention, you see. I thought I was doing him a favour. Turns out... he really wanted a wedding. :) Guess who is the girl in this relationship?

Anyway, it was a really laid back wedding. We did pictures before hand and got to spend the entire time with our guests, of which there were only 70. My dress was gorgeous, Derek looked handsome, and we really got to have the wedding we wanted, with relatively little intervention from our family.

One of the highlights for me was watching my 53 year old aunt break wood with her head, while my 61 year old aunt held it for her. We told them they couldn't give a speech or make us kiss without breaking some wood, since we're into tae kwon do. I thought they'd all wuss out - there wasn't an unbroken piece in the whole place!

Serenity - The 'Verse is definitely my verse. I started off writing years ago in the X-Files fandom, did a fair bit of Buffyverse, and have dabbled with others, but when it comes down to it, I'm all about the Serenity and Firefly. My OTP is a bit unusual in the fandom (though not as much as I would have thought), as I'm a Mal/River shipper. Not because I've got a daddy kink (ew), but because they are perfectly broken for each other. It's not about age for me, it's about how they support and trust each other.

Canada - To quote the Arrogant Worms, "My country is bigger than most". I know I'm only from a small part of it, but I firmly believe in Canadian identity, and that's how I identify myself. One of my favourite things about Canada is our sense of humour. I love watching the Daily Show, because that's the kind of humour we grew up with, listening to Double Exposure and Royal Canadian Air Farce on the CBC. Another of my favourites is the outdoors. It's not summer unless I get to go camping, hiking and canoeing.

Cordelia - This is interesting to me, because I don't remember writing a lot about Cordy. She's a fascinating character though; she changed so much over the years of Buffy and Angel, but still maintained her core self even as she became so much more compassionate and save-the-worldy. In terms of appearance, Cordy was the one I wanted to look like, even if I wanted to kick ass like Buffy and Faith. :)

Drabbles - This, on the other hand, doesn't surprise me at all. I'm defintely associated most with Open-on-Sunday (the first place I ever posted in LJ), and the short ficlet in general. I love how the format forces you to use every weapon in your arsenal. You must pick the exactly correct word, in exactly the correct place. Spacing and formatting become important as well. Oddly, I use repetition a lot in drabbles. You'd think it should be avoided because of the tight word limit, but that's where it shines the brightest, letting you beat your audience over the head with your point or your punchline without being so very literal that they don't even read past the first line. I really should get back to drabbling, now that the wedding is over and I'm not crazy anymore. (See what I did there, with repeating the title - totally learned that from drabbling.)

I switched over to the Rogers TV Guide channel to see if there was anything worth watching. They run a ticker from CP24, and it asked me "Do you write like Stephen King or Charles Dickens?" I Write Like tells you.

You know it's a popular meme when it shows up on TV Guide channel.

You are The Moon

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

So [livejournal.com profile] enigmaticblues gave me Jayne, The Doctor and Angel.

This was tough, at least I thought it was. Can you really envision any of them as the marrying type?

Nevertheless, here is my choice:

Marry Angel - He's dedicated, you've got to give him that. Much less likely to fly off into outer space and never be seen again. (Though given the recent comics, apparently not beyond the realm of possiblity.) The brooding would get dull after a while, but that's where DVD's come in handy.

Shag the Tenth Doctor - Come on! How many chances do you get to boink a freaking alien!

Which leaves poor Jayne dangling from the vines on the cliff. Sorry Jayne, but your 'never kiss on the mouth policy really suggests you might be leaving me hanging. So I'm leaving you hanging before we get there.

You're on my Friends List. I want to know 36 things about you. I don't care if we never talk, or if we already know everything about each other. Short and sweet is fine ... You're on my list, so I want to know you better! Be honest! Copy from here and then repost in a comment. Then repost the empty questions on your LJ.

It's long, so don't do it if you don't want to. Not that I'm saying you should do it if it's short, I just meant... )

The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. (If you absolutely can't write, maybe find a creative alternative?)

1. spiralleds - How did Castiel get his cell phone?
2. alwaysjbj - Spike, a church.
3. dothewu - The OC
4.
5.
6.
7.

9.

Firstly: If you've been tagged, you must write your answers in your own LJ and replace any question that you dislike with a new, original question.

Secondly: Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.

Your Brain is Creative
You have a dreamy mind, full of fancy and fantasy.
You have the ability to stay forever entertained with your thoughts.
People may say you're hard to read, but that's because you're so internally focused.
But when you do share what you're thinking, people are impressed with your imagination.

Enigmaticblues gave me the following words:
1. Mal

Mal is a deeply flawed human being, and therefore a perfect character. Mercurial and playful by turns, he's intelligent (though he plays dumb), emotional (though he acts detached) and honourable (though he aims to misbehave). The canon that we have is compelling, both in the writing and in the portrayal, but where Mal really shines is in fanfic. He is... malleable, all things to all people. I love writing Mal, especially Mal/River. (I also like fantasizing about Mal, but don't tell Spike.)

2. Joss Whedon

What can you say about Joss? I'll watch/read anything he does, knowing that even in the worst of it, there's always going to be something, some moment that makes it all worthwhile. He can make me cry, make me laugh, and inspires me to keep writing.

3. Drabble

What a fantastic format a drabble is for fanfic. Most of what I write tends to be psychological moments anyway, rather than plot (I don't need no stinking plot!), so the format really lends itself to that. I love the challenge of finding just the right words, of expressing an image or moment in perfect clarity. I love the cameraderie and support of [livejournal.com profile] open_on_sunday, where I found my first LJ friends, where I posted my first fics, and where I got my first comments.

4. Boyfriend

Are we talking about Mal again? Oh, you probably mean that real live dude I cohabitate with. We've been together for a long damn time now, and while there are things I'd like to change, we bump along pretty well. I think we've both learned from the other, and it's been good for both of us.

5. Canada

My home and native land! I really do love it up here, though it certainly isn't perfect. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else (though I do fantasize about being a famous screenwriter in LA) - I love my four seasons, being close to my family, and the image of Canada the Good. I like that we recognize that we're a young country, that we make mistakes, that we need to learn from them. I like our ties to Britain and I like the monarchy. I like my music with the required Can-con every five songs or so. I like seeing Canadian faces in movies and television and in international situations. I like to show my small part of the country off to visitors, and I love to visit other parts of the country that I haven't seen yet.

Thanks so much for the words - this meme was a blast! Anyone else interested, just leave a comment and I'll give you words.
