Home... covered with cats

Apparently I lied when I said I'd keep you up to date on the rest of my trip. The trip was awesome and wonderful, but the hotel internets sucked so hard that I just gave up on trying to use it.
When I last posted, it was Monday evening. I worked on Tuesday, as much as the internets would allow, then on Tuesday night... I don't remember (according to Facebook, we went to Denver to get burgers at Cherry Cricket and sticky toffee pudding at Colt & Greys).
On Wednesday, I wasn't working, so it was my shopping day. I went to Arvada to a Hobby Lobby, then next door to the used bookstore, then downtown Arvada to the Knit Knack yarn store and got into a great conversation with the clerk at the candle store just up the street. I had Mexican for lunch. Wednesday evening we went to Boulder to Shuttles, Spindles and Skiens and then to Dushabe Teahouse for dinner - best food of the trip.
Thursday I went up to Boulder by myself and toured the Celestial Seasoning factory, then wandered the Pearl St. pedestrian mall. I was a bad person though, and missed Derek's call about me picking him up for lunch, so he didn't eat. In the evening, we went to Musicians Superstore and Derek got some recording equipment, then we watched Bones, and went to QDoba for a late dinner.
Friday I went to the Hammond's candy factory tour. Then I drove down into Denver to go to the Fancy Tiger craft store and left my phone in the car, missing Derek's call that he was done before noon. I finally picked him up around 12:30. We went back to Boulder for lunch at Jimmy & Drew's deli, then to Shuttles, Spindles and Skiens again, then into Denver for the only tour Derek managed to take in - Stranahan's Distillery. After that, we headed into the mountains for our ski weekend. We stopped at Maison de Ski to rent our skis, and then on to Silverthorne. We went through tunnels, including the Eisenhower Tunnel, through which you cross the Continental Divide - water runs the other way!!! We checked in, drove around a bit, rested a bit, then went to Dillon for Teppanyaki. Back at the hotel, we hit the pool and hot tub.
Saturday was ski day! We got a bit of a slow start, which is fine. We aren't in good enough shape to ski all day anyway. Breakfast in the hotel, then off to Vail. Gorgeous drive - scenic (obviously), sunny and beautiful. Vail is ridiculously expensive, but worth it just to say we did it. I did a mogul covered black diamond (and ate snow a couple of times), then Derek accidently led me down another one (I bit it once, but Derek hit so hard he lost both poles, a ski and his glasses.) The runs are ridiculously long - when we decided we were done for the day, it was still 30 to 45 minutes to the village. We took our gear back to the car, and wandered the village a bit (I was in nothing but my turtleneck and long underwear, but it looked like tights, so I figured I was okay. No one seemed to be staring). We drove back to the hotel and had dinner in the hotel restaurant. We were exhausted, but eventually managed to get our stuff packed.
Sunday we were up at 6, packed the last of the stuff and got ready to head back to Denver. We left around 7:30 (enough time to grab hotel breakfast) and drove on snow covered roads to return the skis in Idaho Springs, then back to the airport to return the rental car. Got to the airport around 9:30, which was good because I'm dumb, and tried to pack the whiskey in my carryon, where it wouldn't get broken, but totally not thinking about the no liquids rule. Duh. I had to go back and check my carryon, then go through screening again. We grabbed Mickey Dee's for lunch, then back to TO (watching Red on the plane). Red Car back to Guelph, said hi to the cats, out for dinner, back and into PJs, Julie came to make sure we got back okay and that the cats were taken care of, and we paid her for catsitting.
And now I'm sitting in front of the TV, thinking about the wonders of sleeping in my own bed, showering with my own shampoo and conditioner and having internet that doesn't suck.
