So, I'm doing this meme, via [livejournal.com profile] enigmaticblues and [livejournal.com profile] slaymesoftly:

Comment to this post, and I will list five things I associate with you. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your LJ (or just add a reply back to me). Other people (including me) can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

List from enigmaticblues

Wedding - Not a surpise that this is on my list, given the wedding was just last week. I've been with Derek for 17 years. We've got a house (well, a mortgage) and 4 cats. We've been through deaths, illnesses other people's weddings and each other changing, and we were still totally committed. We're finally at a place where we both feel ready for kids and Derek really wanted to be married before that happened (I'd kind of given up on the whole wedding thing.

When he suggested it, my first thought was a city hall wedding and a fancy dinner with our close family and friends. Derek isn't big on being the center of attention, you see. I thought I was doing him a favour. Turns out... he really wanted a wedding. :) Guess who is the girl in this relationship?

Anyway, it was a really laid back wedding. We did pictures before hand and got to spend the entire time with our guests, of which there were only 70. My dress was gorgeous, Derek looked handsome, and we really got to have the wedding we wanted, with relatively little intervention from our family.

One of the highlights for me was watching my 53 year old aunt break wood with her head, while my 61 year old aunt held it for her. We told them they couldn't give a speech or make us kiss without breaking some wood, since we're into tae kwon do. I thought they'd all wuss out - there wasn't an unbroken piece in the whole place!

Serenity - The 'Verse is definitely my verse. I started off writing years ago in the X-Files fandom, did a fair bit of Buffyverse, and have dabbled with others, but when it comes down to it, I'm all about the Serenity and Firefly. My OTP is a bit unusual in the fandom (though not as much as I would have thought), as I'm a Mal/River shipper. Not because I've got a daddy kink (ew), but because they are perfectly broken for each other. It's not about age for me, it's about how they support and trust each other.

Canada - To quote the Arrogant Worms, "My country is bigger than most". I know I'm only from a small part of it, but I firmly believe in Canadian identity, and that's how I identify myself. One of my favourite things about Canada is our sense of humour. I love watching the Daily Show, because that's the kind of humour we grew up with, listening to Double Exposure and Royal Canadian Air Farce on the CBC. Another of my favourites is the outdoors. It's not summer unless I get to go camping, hiking and canoeing.

Cordelia - This is interesting to me, because I don't remember writing a lot about Cordy. She's a fascinating character though; she changed so much over the years of Buffy and Angel, but still maintained her core self even as she became so much more compassionate and save-the-worldy. In terms of appearance, Cordy was the one I wanted to look like, even if I wanted to kick ass like Buffy and Faith. :)

Drabbles - This, on the other hand, doesn't surprise me at all. I'm defintely associated most with Open-on-Sunday (the first place I ever posted in LJ), and the short ficlet in general. I love how the format forces you to use every weapon in your arsenal. You must pick the exactly correct word, in exactly the correct place. Spacing and formatting become important as well. Oddly, I use repetition a lot in drabbles. You'd think it should be avoided because of the tight word limit, but that's where it shines the brightest, letting you beat your audience over the head with your point or your punchline without being so very literal that they don't even read past the first line. I really should get back to drabbling, now that the wedding is over and I'm not crazy anymore. (See what I did there, with repeating the title - totally learned that from drabbling.)

Here you go:

Writing Spike Buffy Family Teaching

WRITING – something I’ve done all my life, although very little of it has been fiction until I discovered the world of BtVS and all the fun that could be had there. I actually changed my major from Biology (chemistry – gah!) to English because I read and write so fast that I could do the English classes HW and papers easily and spend my time and energy on the classes I was more interested in but less good at. ☺

SPIKE – As I said before, he’s the reason I’m here. He’s the reason I started reading fanfic and he’s the reason I write it. Even when I’ve branched out from Spuffy, I almost always have Spike in the fic. He may be paired with somebody else, or he may just have a friendship with the other character, but he’s always there. :)

BUFFY – Came for the Spike, stayed for the Spuffy, and learned to love Buffy too. Interestingly enough, when I first began writing, I thought I was writing about Spike, but all my fics seemed to end up being from Buffy’s pov. It was an eye-opening revelation. I loved his character, but she ended being the protagonist of the fics.

FAMILY – I have four grown children, all married; one natural grandchild and two step-grandchildren; my parents are dead – both having lived to ripe old ages (perhaps a little too long in my mother’s case); I have an assortment of nieces and nephews, some of whom are much older than my own children and who have grown children of their own. Family is important to me and I work on keeping mine connected. (Except for the ones we’d rather not admit to – every family has some of those. *g*)

TEACHING – not something I ever thought I’d do for a living (in spite of my mother’s insistence that’s why should go to college. lol) although I have taught actual physical skills of various sorts all my life. I taught skin care and make up (very briefly), I gave horseback riding lessons for years, and I’ve been a dog obedience instructor and a soccer coach. Teaching less concrete things like history, math concepts and language arts wasn’t as different as I’d expected it to be.

You and Derek have been together seventeen years??? Were kindergarten and a yellow crayon involved, perhaps? That's how young you both look.

So what's this meme?

I give you 5 words that I associate with you, and you post about what they mean to you.

And 17 years was our last year of highschool. :) Did you see the pictures of my mother? I've got many years of looking younger than my years to look forward to.

Well, you're both adorable. I love a man in a ponytail.

Sure, give me five words if you will. Thanks.
