Traumatized Toddlers and Trying Not To Laugh

We traumatized VV.

I was reading to her, but she didn't want me to finish the book before she finished her milk. So I held the last word until she finished. Except (there's always an except) she was dawdling, so Derek Derek jokingly told her to 'finish up before Mommy turns blue'.

Oh the tears! Oh the clinginess! Oh the "Mommy stay mommy coloured, don't want you turn blue"! Then she told Derek to stay daddy coloured, and we had to sit with her for an extra 10 or 15 minutes because she was all damaged.

That's another 50$ in the therapy fund.

It's been a couple of days, and she's still reminding us not to turn blue. I have half a mind to dress her up as a Smurf for Hallowe'en.

That's another 50$ in the therapy fund. If she's like my kids, she will never forget this and bring it up many times to tell people how you traumatized her.

When youngest son was in 1st grade our dog woke up and couldn't use her back legs. I thought she had a stroke and I wanted the kids to be prepared that we might not be bringing her back from the Vets. So I read them the book
I will always love you. The story is a about a boy and his dog and they grow up together and how the dog ages and then finally dies.

My son tells me now it was the worst thing I did as a mother. "You read us that 'torture' book, then sent us to school while you went to the Vets with the dog." *sigh* You try your best as a parent but it doesn't always work out.

BTW... youngest son is 31 and he still brings up about the "torture book"

Torture book, that's hilarious. So far in VV's short life we've put down 3 cats. Fortunately she doesn't remember the euthanasia, though she does remember the most recent cat. Unfortunately, she's 3 now, and we have an 8 year old and a 1 year old cat. Lots of time to read the torture book now that she'll remember!

Because my comment got so long I forgot to mention that is wasn't a stroke and we didn't have to put her to sleep. It was her back legs, because she had bent back legs, it was too much strain on the back legs and she was in pain. I know vets don't do this now but they told us to give her an aspirin a day for the next few days and she was fine. So we came back home with the dog, and hubby went up to the school to let the kids know that the dog was fine. AND he still give me a hard time.
