Should I do a New Year Update?
Jan. 3rd, 2006 11:49 amApparently, I should.
D already covered most of the highlights, so I'll just go over the bits I can remember.
As usual, the food at Wong's was awesome. I even had some of the salmon. I got a new cell phone and an IDog from D, tickets to Blue Man Group from Herb and Jessie, and lots of other stuff. All in all, an excellent haul (and good company.)
I didn't enjoy getting up early to go home on Xmas day, but I did enjoy playing with Cheryl's puppy. Again, excellent haul. Money for new furniture, X-Stitch stuff and flute music, and new cozy bathrobe, and pretty pretty diamond earrings from D.
Then off to Kincardine for lunch. Stanley's was great, in large part because many of the rednecks, whiners and assholes were missing. I think the biggest hit at that gathering was the video of me falling on my ass at my Black Belt grading (my mother giggles every time she sees it, the bitch), and playing Phase 10. We are so freaking competitive. When we got home, D and I headed up to Bill and Jackie's to pick up our big gift from the Garniss's. Bill and Pauly got our names, pooled their $ and bought us a Mennonite-made pine cabinet. It's about 2 feet deep, 2 feet wide and 4 feet tall, and fits perfectly in our bathroom. We love it, and Uncle Bill and Paul are very proud of themselves.
We slept at Mom and Dad's, D left at 4 am for the Boxing Day sales, Mom and Dad dropped me in Guelph to meet him, then off to Oakville for Garniss's. D and I got a few more things from the other Garniss's - more X-Stitch stuff for me, Funky Thai gift certificates for him, along with some other stuff.
Home and finally, a day of rest. Sort of. Mom and I went shopping to take advantage of the sales. I got two new coats, two new pairs of pants and a sweater. I also picked out my birthday gift, but I've been ordered to forget about it until March. D went skiing. That evening, Dan, Ashley and Audrey came over to chill post-ski. AJ got lost, we didn't sleep, AJ got found. Life was beautiful.
Wednesday we puttered around, cleaning up for the dinner party on Friday, then headed back to Wingham for Garniss-Willits. As always, the food was spectacular and plentiful (gotta love that pot-luck) and we finally got to play Cranium - very good game.
Thursday more puttering, Friday more directed cleaning and cooking. Great dinner party. Excellent food, lots of games. Cranium again rocked, and Settlers was awesome (thanks, Dan!).
Saturday we puttered until it was time to head off for Hamilton with Vince, Sandra and Richard in tow. We had a great New Years, with the old Listowel crowd. We missed Brent and Mark, who were sick, and Sandra looked awfully wistful at the copious amounts of alcohol everyone but her was consuming, but that's what happens when you are pregnant. We played more games, toasted each other with horrible champagne, and I was asleep by 1:30ish.
Melisa cooked us all breakfast the next morning, and we just hung and chatted until 3, then home and a relaxing afternoon, mostly doing dishes.
On Monday, we headed into TO for brunch at Herb and Jessie's. As usual, excellent conversation - who would play Magnum PI in a movie made today? It's a tough question - who could possibly pull off the 'stash? Also, Hollywood seems lamentably filled with the skinny, sensitive type.
And now it's Tuesday, I'm at work, and it's another whole year before we have to do it again.
Happy Holidays, all!
