She’d been the first dinner guest in their new homes, the first passenger in new cars. She’d met the significant others first, been the first to hear about their engagements. She’d been a bridesmaid at their weddings, including the one that hadn’t happened and the one that ended in acrimonious divorce. She’d been the first visitor to hold the babies, the first babysitter when nervous parents went out without the baby for the first time.
So many moments, so many firsts.
So many things she’d never have.
