Weekend Update

I heart the Royal.
I heart the food. (mmm, roast pork tenderloin from Ontario Pork Producers booth). I heart the animals.
I heart the surreality of it all - Cows in the city?
I even heart the smell. It takes me right back to my childhood.
I love my background. I love that there are so many things that I know, simply by virtue of growing up on a farm. I love that I feel I am entirely typical, normal, perfectly average, and yet come from some of the most interesting (not always in the bad way) people I've ever met. I love that my dad has a degree and my mom has a diploma, and none of us are afraid to drive or walk in Toronto. I love that my dad is a farmer, and my mom is in construction, and none of us are afraid to drive or walk on a lonely country road. I love that we love the theatre and the Plowing Match in equal measure. I love that I work at a software company and can point out what makes a cattle beast champion material.
Anyway, the five of us had a great time at the Royal. Shane and Melisa got there a little earlier than us (which is too bad, because I would have paid big money to see Melisa being snuck up on by the cow.) Ashley was drawn to sheep and the alpaca (she was envisioning the things she could knit). Derek and Ashley both fell in love with the bunnies. Personally, I'm all about the big animals - it took forever for them to drag me out of the petting zoo. (They had pot bellied pigs! and llamas! and donkeys! and oddly a zebu and a yak)
After the Royal, we got confused for a while. Do we want to eat? Do we want to go to the bookstore? Okay, let's drive down Queen West for a while. Finally ended up at the Silver Snail (so much Buffy to lust after, and me with no money). We got soaked walking there and spent the rest of the night in various stages of dampness.
After that, we tried to find the World's Biggest Bookstore, but we failed miserably. (We were right by it, I know - we just couldn't find it.) Eventually we gave up on that (for the best, as I had no money and they had a big ass sale - that's a recipe for depression), and went for supper instead. We hit a Thai place (do you have any idea how many Thai restaurants there are on Yonge?), and headed for home. Okay, we headed for Demetre in Oakville, gorged ourselves on sugar and then headed for home.
We nano'ed with Cat and Ashley for a couple of hours, then sleep.
I'd tell you about Sunday, but nothing too exciting happened (except Jen came over).
