Okay, it's November 3rd. I've been jazzed about Nano ever since I signed up a few weeks ago. I've been chewing my nails waiting to start. I figured, I'm so excited, I'll get lots done at first; I was worried about halfway through the month when I lost interest, or stopped making time or whatever.

Not so. Instead, I was struck with writer's block. Instead of the expected double output (2000-4000 words) on the first day, instead of even the bare minimum (1667 words), I wrote a measely 313.

Okay, keep the chin up. I can catch up tomorrow. All of a sudden, there's work to do at work. Who knew? So my great plan of writing during the slow times at work - not going so well. Yesterday, I only ended up writing another 390ish words. What's worse, I actually had some direction and ideas yesterday, but ran out of time before I put myself to bed. Can I remember my inspiration today? Yeah, right!

Fortunately, it's only 9 am on the third day. Hopefully, I can get some written at work, then I'll print it out and work on it between work and TKD, type it up when I get home, chart my progress, and go to bed. Maybe I can catch up on Thursday - except that's The OC and CSI. I should email my sister in law and see if we are going to the Royal on Friday afternoon, which would blow that day away. Saturday night is Joey's party, at some point I should go home and help Mom with her computer, and then it's Monday again, with work and TKD.

Why did I have so much more time last month?

You had so much time on your hands because you didn't have anything to do. :)
I'm on track so far (knock wood), but that's just by being excessively wordy and dwelling on unimportant scenes like having lunch. Ha. I'm almost 5,000 words in and I'm still stuck in the real world 'chapter one' - nothing's HAPPENED. I want to rip it all out and start again, but I can't or I'll never finish. Then again, I'm used to writing short stories - plots that start and end in four or five pages, so the pacing is really off of what I'm used to. Its making me itchy.
Me, I cheated yesterday and went to one of my D&D games, so I was up until midnight making my daily word count, and its Brownies tonight. If I'm caught up on my word count by Friday (i.e. I write double tomorrow night), I'm treating myself to Living Greyhawk, but if I'm not I'll have to pass. That's part of my strategy - bribe myself with things I normally do to pass the time. Heh. :)
Chin up. Tape the shows and watch them later - write, write, write!!
(imagine a little cheerleader guy jumping enthusiastically for you)

Congrats on your word count Sandra! You definitely deserve a treat, sounds like you are doing really well. I ended up starting in at about chapter 2, because I couldn't figure out how to introduce Lia to the world - I think I've got that licked now. You are right about taping things - for the time being, I have to focus on this and treat myself to TV and x-stitch later, maybe if I hit 25,000 by the mid-month get together!

Thanks for the cheerleading - I needed it!

Aww don't despair! I've found that when Writers Block hits I can get past it by starting in another place in the story. Also, I keep an MS word file open with 'off ideas'. Those little inspirational thoughts that pop up throughtout the day. If I get stuck I re-read that file and usually something triggers so I can continue.

All this coming from someone who has yet to hit 600 words. :)

Thanks for the cheerleading, rockinkitty. I think it's starting to get better - I have the first two chapters each half written, so I can flip back and forth as inspiration strikes. The idea of having a file for off ideas is an excellent one - I'm going to try that.

I hope you are getting some time to write and not spending all your time working (as great as the food was!) You'll catch up in no time!
