Okay, I need a new set of friends. I totally forgot there are "real" writers on my friends list; people like you, who will ask me hard questions and make me think, and then make me think everything I've written to date is trite "pop-lit" crap.
I guess I'm all about character interaction and growth - learning to be kind to others, learning to see beyond the persona everyone puts forward, but also learning to see your own true self and recognizing/choosing the persona that you put forward.
I also like a good twist - a horror turning into a comedy, a comedy turning tragic, etc. I guess that is kind of an epiphany theme - a sudden change or realization/recognition of life changing, and fighting to keep everything the same.
