Owls and I posted Chapter 7 of 'Meet the Neighbours', our Doctor Who/Good Omens crossover fic! 🤗🤗🤗

Overall summary, for anyone who might be curious:

Missy and the Doctor move to the South Downs. Aziraphale and Crowley are their neighbours.

That's it, that's the set-up.

Good Omens S3 - quick post

Should you watch?

- If you loved S1 because it's near-perfect TV and left it at that, stay where you are.

- If the show became your obsession ('Everything is meant') and you fell head-first head-first into fic and meta and analysing everything (*cough* my Good Omens Master Post has links to my other Good Omens Master Posts), then you might hate S3 (those that hate it have good reasons), but it does tie things up.

Personally, then - despite how clunky the plot of it was (more on that in my main post) - then I rather loved it. Even if it wasn't at ALL what I expected.

So, tomorrow is Good Omens Day. I don't know how to feel. To be honest, I kept forgetting it was happening.

I'm sad that this lovely show now has such a dark shadow cast over it. I'm sad that we only get 90 minutes instead of 6 episodes, all thanks to NG being a monster. I hope that the victims somehow manage to get closure and some kind of recompense. And it feels ridiculous to care about a TV show in the light of what he did.

So I debated a lot over whether to watch.

In the end, I think what swayed me was the fact that it was Terry Pratchett's family who intervened and managed to salvage a 90 minute special out of the axed 6 episode season. And - like with Buffy (or any of Joss' shows) - the people involved (actors, director, crew etc) were not responsible for the actions of the creator. ETA: Of course, NG isn't involved in S3 in any way, but also - he isn't involved, and he was the keeper of the vision. OTOH there has been some truly excellent fic over the years, and with Rachel Talalay as director the end result should be good.

But, it's a difficult calculation, and I understand anyone who has added it all up and come to a different decision. I don't know if I will write about it, guess it depends what the story does.

My hope is that it manages to do what Serenity did for Firefly - tell a complete story and wrap everything up, rather than be something clearly cut down and rushed. (I loved S2 of OFMD, but you could tell how they were speed-running certain parts.)

Honestly, all I want is a happy ending. That's it. 🏡 For everything else, there is fic.

1. What do you consider your current main fandom? (This can include hobbies and collecting. Anything you feel fannish about!)

My three favourites of all time are Lost, Dark and From, so I'd say these are my main fandoms right now. Also School Spirits, Fringe, Yellowjackets, The Way Home, Doctor Who, Supernatural, Hunger Games

2. What was your first fandom?

While I first became aware of the concept of fandom through my now-ex boyfriend from university having some friends who were active in Harry Potter, the first one I was truly active in was Lost.

3. Do you have any favorite headcanons or fan theories?

I have a lot of headcanons for Dark around the Nielsen family:

Right before Mads went missing, he and Ulrich had one of their typical spats which ended in Ulrich telling him to "get lost". It was something that would normally have blown over, but because Mads did disappear so soon after, Ulrich never entirely forgave himself. Since Regina knew about the incident, she also blamed Ulrich at first; while they never really became friends, they did come to an understanding over the matter.

The night before Katharina and Ulrich's wedding, Hannah decided to try and put a stop to the wedding and see if she could persuade Ulrich to leave Katharina for her. She got as far as turning up to his stag night, but got there just as Ulrich had left for fresh air, upset as it had just suddenly hit him that Mads wouldn't see him get married. Realising it wasn't the right time for that conversation, she didn't say anything in the moment and just let him talk. Ulrich ended the conversation by repeating a rumour that Michael intended to propose to Hannah, and Hannah realised he seemed happy about the possibility, that he felt nothing for her at that time.

What really prompted Michael to turn his back on his old life as Mikkel was not anything Ines ever did, but reading an article in the local paper about the death of "the lunatic on the ward". Realising his old life was now lost to him, he threw himself into the new. The only time he ever let the mask slip was in response to a remark in school assembly that the Berlin Wall was unlikely to come down in the principal's lifetime, to which he had shouted "Bet you're wrong". Michael had a cover story that usually explained it away if the subject ever came up again.

And one for From:

Colony House was one of many just like it at one time, but the others were all destroyed. During the American Civil War, the incarnation of Jade that existed at the time was part of an attempt by his regiment to escape by burning the town to the ground (the idea being that they couldn't be trapped there if there was no town to be trapped in). However, some of the more sober members of the regiment stepped in, saving Colony House. Town as it is now stands on the site of the old houses.

One for Lost:

Jacob also met the deceased characters off island. At this time of night I can't be bothered to type it all out, but here's the story of that: https://archiveofourown.org/works/16228004

4. Have you ever created fanworks?

Dude, have you ever met me?

5. Are you still active in any old fandoms?

I'm still active in Lost and Fringe but will dabble in others. How are we defining an old fandom here - as in one I was active in ages ago? One that's been around for ages and canon finished for a while but was new-ish to me?

Iran

What I didn't have on my bingo card for 2026 was AI LEGO videos from Iran... (Probably the only use of AI slop that I would defend.) I hope they have educated many people on issues they might otherwise not know. (Yes they're propaganda, but when speaking about the rot in America they are not wrong.)

Now there are many, many videos, but this one's my favourite:

Same sun rising, but we're living in hell,
while the leaders are ringing the funeral bell.
Love for the people, but the system must cease,
from Tehran to DC, we're screaming for peace...

~

I don't feel like writing any essays on the situation, but I still vividly remember the Green Movement in 2009. (Just follow the tag to see my posts from back then.) It's where this icon is from. Remember watching the news with hope and terror, seeing the sea of people protesting and thinking that surely they would win?

And then they didn't.

I have re-uploaded a video from back then (8.81MB):

My Elementary Schoolmate.flv

My Elementary Schoolmate.mov

My Elementary Schoolmate.wmv

Content/trigger warning: The footage is exclusively from the 2009 protests. Very raw and powerful, and a lot of violence and injury.

The song is from 1979, and apparently they were singing again during the Green Revolution. (Lyrics here.)

So yeah. The Iranians know a lot about living under a repressive regime... A regime that America/the West is responsible for.

ETA: The sophistication of the LEGO videos is what gets me. America (and Israel, let's not forget) is trying to bomb a people into submission or rebellion. (Bombing a school is... not the way to achieve this.)

Whereas Iranian creators are doing something much cleverer: They are not only exposing the elites and the crimes, but highlighting all the flaws in the system, the bloodstained history of the colonisers: You are a victim too. ('We share the same pain...')

More videos, but I am putting them under the cut:
