Followup to Return Drabble

inspired by and dedicated to Ares.

There’s a moment.

Before the truth is revealed. Before the screaming begins. Before the fists and fangs and fighting starts.

Before all that, there’s one last moment.

You already feel alive. Everything is brighter and more colourful, like you can taste the breeze. You’ve already made your choice, and now there’s no going back.

You have just enough emotion left to think of your mother grieving, your sister crying, your best friend wondering. Just enough feeling to yearn for them without the hunger colouring it all.

Just that last moment to say goodbye to his past, to himself...

Jesse is the late, great, unsung character of the Buffyverse, and I am always glad to see reference to him. A cool follow up, and I'm going and friending you just because you apparently write things like this on a regular basis.

Jesse is lots of fun to write - we're supposed to identify with him, but we gain and lose him so fast that we don't really know anything about him.

I love getting new friends! I hope my writing lives up to your hopes. ;)

Thanks Ares. I was thinking hard about who it could be, and then realized of course it had to be Jesse. He is the first person we see before and after, someone we are supposed to connect with and understand. So how could he possibly make that choice, and how much of him was left?
