Serioiusly, y'all - I'm walking with a CANE.

For Christmas, Mom and Dad gifted the whole family (Derek and I and VV, Bro & Sis-in-law and 3 girls) with a trip to a local ski resort. We all ski, except VV and Lyla (though Derek and I haven't been in 3 years, given little Miss), it's not far, not expensive, and it was a great chance to spend some time together.

We got VV out on skis (she's awesome and utterly adorable) on Tuesday morning first thing. Then we left her with Poppa (my dad) and headed off to get some real runs in. 4 runs down and I crash and burn on Calamity Lane (a double black). I felt my knee ping as I went down.

Fortunately, it appears to be a small meniscus tear, and I should be good to go in about 2 weeks. I better be - we leave for Costa Rica with the other side of the family in 28 days!

Anyway, I sit here, with my cane and my heating pad, catching up on the internet and watching my house devolve into a state of disaster.

I am already walking better, even without the cane, so I'm not too concerned. I did miss the deadline for last week's LJIdol because I totally forgot, but I had one bye left. Grant you, I'd intended to save that for Costa Rica.... it is what it is.

Ouch! I'm glad you weren't hurt worse. Getting old and decrepit is the pits.

The cane had already come in handy - we went to a couple of live music events today, and people fell all over themselves to get me a chair. I might miss this injury when it's gone!

That was the big fear, that I'd torn the ACL. Seems to already be healing, but I know it'll be vulnerable for some time.

Ow ow ow!!!! Careful with that knee, let it heal up before you out to much on it. I am kicking myself for rushing a bad ankle sprain a few years ago because it did not heal right and now it bothers me on long walks or days where I stand for a few hours at work. :( getting older does suck!

Because of my hypermobility, I have walking aids on hand if I need them. Sometimes my ankles and kneecaps (especially my kneecaps!) like to do the weird thing now. :P
