The lead Tech writer told me yesterday that the earlier I get here, the earlier I can get home. I assume that means that he will be here early as well. So, instead of the 8 am bus I've been taking this week, I went back to my usual 7 am bus. On the 7, I'm occasionally the first person on the floor, but I've never been the first person in the building.

Until this morning.

I got in at 8:45, people. That's not that early. Grant you, most everyone except the Orion team is taking today as a holiday, so maybe Virgil (our admin) isn't even going to be here today, but you'd think someone would be here before 9.

Nope.

I walked in, and the alarm instantly started to sound. I thought, "fine, that's okay. I have a card with the code on it. Somewhere." It took a few minutes, but I finally found the card. Entered the code. Nothing happens. Still beeping. Now it's telling me it's a slow entry alarm. Well, duh.

The alarm pad is right at eye level for me. It took a couple of minutes, but I finally looked up and saw that they had posted the process above that. Finally, with confidence, I entered the code and the rest of the information. No more beeping.

Now I just hope I didn't screw something up while I was fumbling around earlier. I'll just hide in my cube, like some deformed creature.

Updated to add:

As if that wasn't enough, I spent about 20 minutes last night preparing two tins of cookies, squares and other sugary treats to share with my co-workers. Naturally, I then left them in the fridge at home, and didn't even remember them until I got to TO.

You're not early, or too short, or too dim. They're just late, too tall, and overly complicated in how they configured the 'shut off' process.

Don't hide for long. When coworkers come in, jump out of your cubical and shout "HI! Happy ChristmaHanuKwanzaKa!!!" in a really loud voice. That'll show 'em.

Sitting alone in the dark for an hour gave me lots of time to surf the web. :)

:hugs:

I've had days like that... days where nothing seems to work quite right...

Here's hoping that things can only get better from here on out.

It's getting better. All I have to do is occasional proofreading, so I'm surfing the web mostly. Once this doc gets out the door, I'll be on my way as well.

And hey, the cops didn't show up despite my incompatibility with the alarm, so it's all good.

Poor Ann..

:: super big bug hug::

Next time you're in at 8...you should totally rewire the alarm and put it like...a foot from the ground...that'll show em.

That'll show them all!

:: insert evil meniacal laughter here::
....how do you spell meniacal?

Serves them right to make fun of the vertically challanged!

SHORT PEOPLE RULE THE WORLD!!!!!!one

p.s. Think about it thsi way...if it was me, I'd be jumping just to see the alarm pad...and the cookies..

I was making soft cookies for fun (and because we had chocolate chips....come on....) and my mom...thought they were undercooked...so she put them back in the oven.

They were alright...but really...really...crispy.
