You should have seen Mom. She was practically bouncing off the walls. Adam called Gran and Gramps from my place and Mom managed to restrain herself until we got in the car to go to Turtle Jack's for supper. Between my place and the restaurant (and you know how short a drive that is) she managed to call Aunt Jackie and Aunt Mary Edith. She suggested Adam stop in and tell Aunt Ede on the way home from Guelph (though she was planning to call as well), and she was capable of waiting to call her brothers and the sister that wasn't at Grans, though she figured Deb would have already started that calling tree. :)

Aunt Jackie (the one who went up to the cottage with us) actually already half knew, since her oldest boy lives with Adam. Paul and his girlfriend had kind of figured it out.

Thanks. We've been waiting for this for a while, since Adam's been kind of hinting at it. Apparently, Mom's been scoping out Cheryl's finger everytime they see each other. :)

They are planning it for the end of August or early September, which will be interesting, given how busy both bride, groom and both fathers are during that season. Adam and Cheryl work for an agriculture company (same company, different branch offices) and both dads are farmers. By end of August, we're into second cut hay and taking off the winter wheat and baling straw.

It'll be fun for me... I think the rest of them are going to be way burned out.

Is your brother planning it for this year? Adam and Cheryl are thinking end of August/beginning of Summer.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

Does this mean a pretty new dress that you can wear again? [/end maid of honor cliche]

I don't know yet. My friend Sandra asked if I was going to be a bridesmaid, but I don't think they've gotten quite that far with the wedding plans. If not, I've got a great summer dress I picked up (my aunt picked up for me) in the fall sales at Cleo, I've got the navy bridesmaid's pantsuit I wore to Sandra's wedding and I've got that burgandy dress I wore to the cocktail party in Atlanta, plus a couple of others. I should be set for all the various events!

We know there's going to be at least some stuff at Cheryl's parents farm, and possibly the whole shooting match will be out there. Mom's already started thinking about all the things she needs to get ready at our place. Adam asked why: "We aren't having anything at our place." "Oh, there'll be people in and out."

Poor baby brother has no idea what he's in for. :)

Your outfits sound cute. Hope you get to wear something reasonable, and not the frilly, expensive "white elephant" outfits, previously picked out for me by bridezillas of my acquaintance.

Hee. A male friend of mine told me: "men are hostages" at weddings. No wonder he never married. But there is some truth in that, if only a drop.

I hold modest acclaim (in my own mind, at least) for thrifty weddings. (Both of 'em!) I used to coordinate weddings in San Francisco, and one bride's dress cost more than my whole wedding, reception, and honeymoon!

I haven't been to many weddings. I thought Derek's brother's was extravagent, but my friend told me about her boss's daughter's wedding in TO. Sandra figured her boss spent at least $100,000 on the event, which just blew me away. Sandra herself spent $5000 on her entire wedding. Grant you, it was a cash bar. Open bar tends to get a little pricey in our neck of the woods.

That is insanely too much money to spend on a one-day event, even if it is the biggest day of your life. That's like a hefty down payment on a house, and I don't mean a starter house! A starter mansion!

I didn't have an open bar at either wedding. The first, bigger wedding, we brought a case of Ackerman sparkling wine that I got wholesale from the place I worked. (A fancy club in San Francisco.) The second wedding was attended about 90% by AA members, and the rest were "normies" who were just as happy to toast our happiness in white grape juice.

I am sure your brother and his bride's wedding will be a happy, beautiful day.

My mom has been itching for a big-ass party for a while, but she managed to not ask Adam's plans. I was very impressed. We had about 250 people for Mom and Dad's 25th wedding anniversary in 1999 and Mom's about ready for another party. :)

It helps to have at least an acre of lawn to set up a party tent on. I have no idea what the numbers will be like for the actual wedding.
