I posted in January that my brother got engaged. Well, it finally happened this weekend.

And man am I tired.

An excellent time was had by all; in fact, such a good time that we didn't want it to end. I finally got to bed around 3:30 on Saturday, and Thursday and Friday weren't much better.

I did learn a lot about throwing a major event though.
1) It's already become nothing but a blurry bunch of memories punctuated by food.
2) More cameras is more better.
3) Make sure there are plenty of toy tractors for the kids (and the groomsmen) to play with. Otherwise, they whine.

Finally, here is the speech I gave at the reception. I mostly managed it without crying.

"Even though Adam and Cheryl warned me months in advance that I'd have to speak tonight, it wasn't until Thursday that I started actually preparing.

I have been thinking about what to say for a while though. After all, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to describe all the horrible and annoying things he's done to me over the years. Things like being born. Being born all tiny and adorable, taking all the attention away from me. Or looking pathetic and innocent, making them blame me for the broken... well, there were a lot of broken things. Or growing taller and stronger than me, so he could get revenge for all the times I beat him up.

On Thursday night though, I finally figured out what I wanted to say. I've been calling my brother 'Mikey' for a long time now. I decided when he was about 9 or 10 that he was far to immature for the name Adam, so I started calling him by the most childish version of his middle name I could think of. He's been Mikey, my immature, annoying baby brother ever since.

But today, as we celebrate you, your bride and your future, I wish Adam and Cheryl all the best.

But you'll be Mikey again tomorrow."

For those of you who have Facebook, there are a few photos there. Not mine, but check my friends - Kerry Blake has a few and Rachel P. has a bunch as well. I'll get to my photos after I sleep.

The speeches were all really great. The best man was funny and just a little risque, the parents made us cry a little, and the bride and groom made us cry a lot. At one point Adam was thanking Mom and Dad and talked about how happy he was to be joining Dad working on the farm. His voice cracked a little, and the whole room just lost it. Thank god I had a handkerchief in my purse.

Thank you. It was beautiful and they are really, really happy. I'm going to get a flickr site or get my own site set up to post pictures.
