Spike
There was no hope, not without the Slayer.
Every moment Spike was alone (lots of those moments), he tested his body. He was the fastest and strongest he’d ever been, filled with the blood of both the victims the minions brought back and the ones he secretly hunted. Filled too, with the burning fury at Angelus.
And it wouldn’t be enough.
He couldn’t take them both (he loved her, but he wasn’t a fool. She’d kill him if Angelus asked). He needed an ally, strong enough (angry enough) to destroy Angelus.
He waited in the shadows to cut his deal.
Wesley
He liked a drink in the evening.
A single scotch, cut with water, slowly savoured. When he entertained a lady, he shared a bottle of white with her (Wyndam-Prices don’t drink red, his father said).
When he’d been let go by the Council, he’d let himself have two, but went back to one when he joined Angel and Cordelia. Of course, when Fred chose Gunn, he was back to two. Sometimes three.
Four glasses a night would be too much. So when he lost Connor, when Angel repudiated him, he did the only thing he could.
He stopped adding water.
Liam/Angelus
He didn’t work when he lived.
His family was well enough off that there was no need. Oh, his father expected it of him, but Liam had gotten expert at avoiding expectations. He sat through his father’s shouted lectures with obvious boredom, staying only to wheedle food from his mother and steal coin from his father.
No, he’d never worked. Plying a girl with drink and flattery to get her on her back wasn’t work. Drinking and gaming with his friends wasn’t work.
And now in unlife, cutting a helpless human from the herd for a feast still wasn’t work.

That was season 2 Spike wasn't it? Him in his weelchair pretending he can't walk. Spike was always planning, and the plans just never quite worked the way he wanted them to.
Wesley.

Yes, Wesley did resort to drink. Especially after Fred became Illyria.
Liam/Angelus.

It all came too easy to him, didn't it?
You captured the thoughts and characters perfectly.
Thank you.
