All that glisters is not gold used to just be a line in a play that he couldn’t admit he’d read.
In Newport, it had a whole new meaning.
The sunshine seemed brighter, or maybe it was just that the streets were cleaner and the water bluer.
But what really glittered were the people. They wore precious metals and gems like they were cheap plastic, but even the diamond sparkle couldn’t compete with the white smiles and the silky hair.
He’d been dazzled at first, but it didn’t take long to realize that all the shine made the shadows darker.

Thanks. I love drabbling :)

I'd intended this to be something light and fluffy about how Ryan loved to look at the girls' shiny hair, but of course it went somewhere dark.

Thanks so much. I thought it was a little cliche, but I guess the whole point of cliches is that they work.

Okay, never watched the OC in my life, but this was still a beatifully written drabble - as usual.

I'm so happy that it translates without having watched the show. It's basically a Cinderfella story, with lots of soap opera angst and drama.
