I intended to write a Christmas/New Year's recap post. I swear, I really did. My mind has been so whirling with stuff, I really can't sort out what happened over the holiday, but I'll try.

Since I'm on contract (no paid holidays), I worked up to the 23rd, then back on the 28th, 29th and 30th. That sucked, simply because I was used to having 2 weeks off for Christmas at Angoss. I know, I'm spoiled.

Anyway, finally finished shopping on the 23rd on the way home from work. That was mostly groceries, since Mom, Dad, Ad., and Cheryl were coming over at 10 on the 25th. The 24th was for cleaning. The house is still relatively tidy; maybe I can actually turn into a decent housekeeper this year.

Christmas was wonderful, as always. Mom, Dad, and Ad. (I love that it rhymes!) showed up at 10, we ate and opened presents, then sorted stuff out for taking to dinner/supper. Cheryl arrived around noon; she had Christmas with her family first. The four of them took off first, we tidied up a bit, showered and left around 2. Got to my aunt's at around 3. Chatted (mostly with the boys' girlfriends - they are way more interesting) and snacked until dinner at 3:30. There were 21 for the meal in Aunt Mary Edith's new (unfinished) sun room. There was only space for 20 chairs - good thing John and his girlfriend are skinny! After eating, all the cousins ended up downstairs, playing with the tops. I got D. an I-Top (a digital top with a bunch of games - how many times it goes around, how fast it spins, that sort of stuff), and had told my aunt about it, so she got tops for two of her three boys. We had three going. Turns out it's not just Adam and I that are competitive - all the cousins and their girlfriends got really into it too. Picture 13 people, all but two over 18, fighting good-naturedly over who gets to play with the top next. God, we're juvenile!

The adults finally got our attention for gifts. We opened presents, then it was time for D. and I to pack up and head to his parents for Christmukkah. We got to Scarborough about 7. (Not last - D's aunt, uncle and cousin pulled up just behind us.) There were 12 for that meal - D's brother's in-laws came up. It was nice seeing them again. So much food, so much amazing food. Presents, then dessert (more food!)

We left Scarborough around 10:30.

On Boxing Day, we headed for Wingham, then followed Mom and Dad to Kincardine. More food. It was pretty good, all things considered. You know the show "Trailer Park Boys"? One of my uncles and a couple of my cousins kinda remind me of those guys. They aren't criminals like the guys on the show, and they aren't as trashy but ... Nice people, but dumb, you know? (God, I hope they never find this.) Left fairly early from there, because we had planned to go skiing with D's brother and cousin on the 27th.

We went up to Horseshoe. The skiing was good. No major crashes, no injuries. We had a great time. It was wonderful being on skis again. I love winter!

work, work, work (D slept, slept, slept - he took some time off)

New Years eve we cleaned in preparation for everyone to show up after supper. We had 13 people in for the party (that's about as many as the house can hold!) People started clearing out around 1. Only 3 stayed over, but we stayed up chatting with those three until 4. We finally woke up around noon (missed breakfast buffet at Golden Griddle because Gay Guys Take a Long Time to Get Pretty! you know who you are). Still went to the Griddle. Two of our guests headed off for the wilds of Listowel, the other stuck around to watch SuperSize Me with us. At 5pm the house was ours again (it was a mess, but it was ours). Cleaned half-heartedly. Once the dishes got done, it was much better.

Felt really bad about not calling/going over to R & T's, but our friends wouldn't freaking leave! (So very sorry)

Since then Mom has been a little under the weather, so I went up to their place last weekend. Ended up watching movies with their friends in Goderich. Had a good time, Mom's getting better, and I think now (2 weeks after New Years) I can finally try and organize my life.

This year I've resolved to try and get back into school, (part-time Masters in English, if they'll have me - can you help me syo?), write and/or cross-stitch at least 2 hours a day, become a better housekeeper, and find a permanent job in K-W or Guelph.

Are there any other resolutions I should be making? You all know better than I do what I'm really bad at - returning phone calls, cooking, low alcohol tolerance, bad writer, whatever. Go ahead and tell me, I can take it.

don't sweat...

Not making it here... we were pretty wiped anyway (we said our goodbyes at 2:30 or 3 in the am).

Hey, want to make a new years resolution with me? Find one new dish a month to cook. I went through and wrote out my meal repitoire to try and do some menu planning and god do I suck when it comes to variety. The whole list was like "shepards pie, chicken nuggets, lasangea...." and not a lot more :-P

This is not a critical comment on your cooking, I think you're a fine cook, I'm just looking for some one to make try new food with me. This week was pork-tenderloin roasted with ginger, soya sauce and garlic over egg noodles. Not a bad start (the pork was a-frikking-mazing).

That sounds like an awesome idea. Can I get the pork recipe too?
