As if there isn't enough stress...

It's been a big year for Derek and I. Things both wonderful and scary are happening.
In April we got a new roof that we're still paying for (steel shingles, so it'll pay for itself in the long run, but steel shingles, so holy hannah that bill....)
In June we started planning a wedding.
In July we told our families we were planning a wedding (way more stressful than just planning it, let me tell you. They're happy for us, but my side at least, has opinions. Derek's side are just pleased.)
And in the past week Derek's car died (quickly - transmission blew on the way to work), and I've gotten the word that Grandma won't make it to my wedding in November.
We've been told she has 4-6 weeks left - just enough time to show her my ring, hopefully my dress, and say goodbye. Hopefully, it's fast and relatively painless for her - it'll be very painful for all of us.

Date: 2011-09-09 09:52 pm (UTC)lost my elder brother to cancer recently; though it's been on the cards for about three years now. Also a friend is visiting his father in hospital every day; never knowing if he's going to see him the next day.
Paraphrasing Tara, It's never sudden; and it's always so.
LOL Ray.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. My grandmother died in February and we had about the same amount of time to adjust to the knowledge. It's hard, and my thoughts are with you.

Date: 2011-09-11 09:48 pm (UTC)Right now we're borrowing a Chevy Avalanche from Derek's brother. It's nice having a gear head with money in the family, even if it does suck gas.
One of the scariest things about Gran is it's starting me looking at my parents and in-laws with this in mind. My parents are only 61 and 56, but Derek's Dad is only 8 years younger than Grandma.
